Top Seeds Advance in NCPGA Match Play

Hummels Wharf, Pa- All four of the top seeds advanced to the semi final round in today's 36-hole match play marathon at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club. Susquehanna Valley Country Club's Cody Conklin, the number one seed and three time winner on the NCPGA junior tour this summer will be joined by Liberty Valley's Nick Butto (4). Three Ponds Shane Yeager (2) and Williamsport Country Club's Andrew Krout (3) in Thursday's semi final matches. Conklin will face Butto and Yeager will square off against Krout in the other semi final starting at 8:00am at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club. Conklin scored a 7 and 6 victory over Alex Guard in the opening round then blew a four up lead against Sean Pauling of the host club before making a five foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to advance. Second seed Yeager cruised to a 9 and 8 victory over Mill Race's Stephen Zosh and then knocked of Bucknell Golf Club's Jake Snyder 7 and 6. Butto beat Shade Mountain?s Colin Rice 5 and 4 before nipping Zach Stuck also of Shade Mountain on the last hole. Krout beat Liberty Valley's Jeff Brunozzi 7 and 5 before dispensing with his younger brother Kyle Krout 7 and 5. The match play championship is a shift of gears for the players on the NCPGA Junior Tour who played six stroke play tournaments this summer before winding up the summer season with this event which pits the top sixteen players from the summer tour against each other in this head to head competition. Following a day of rest (Wednesday), the final and semi final matches will be played on Thursday. The NCPGA summer season will conclude with the annual parent-child tournament on August 5th at Eagles Mere Country Club.
